If you're having trouble keeping your new year's resolution to lose weight, you're not the only one. A group of people in Central Pennsylvania just might be the inspiration you need. They've lost more than 19 thousand pounds!
Glen Hoskins lost a 165 pounds by basically starving himself. He gained 50 of it back and decided he needed a healthier lifestyle. Thats when he found Central PA's Biggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge. He says, "I was really doubtful. I was told I looked very grumpy at first."
The challenge has hundreds of participants in 5 counties, but started with just a few people in Cyndi Taylor's basement. They met their 1 ton weight loss goal and decided to keep going. Taylor says, "We're going to hit 10 ton. We've already got our banners for 15 ton. Somebody asked when are you going to stop and I said where there's no one left."
The groups meet once a week to weigh-in and talk about nutrition and exercise. If you miss a meeting, or gain weight, be prepared to pay up. The money is added to the pot. Then once the 12 week session is up, the three people with the largest percentage of weight loss, get the cash. at the end, Taylor helps the participants understand just how much they've lost by donating a pound of food for every pound they lost. She says, "They really realize what they've done because their body has been carrying that around."
Glen is now at his ideal weight and beefed up his muscle content. He says, "If you're willing to put forth your best effort, you can do it and keep the weight off."
